You can spend as little as $258. for a metal frame with a 6" mattress or as much as $1000+ for a hardwood frame with a memory foam mattress and decorative cover. There are many mid-priced futons that are excellent quality that will last for years. Mid-range price for a futon would be around $500-$700. What a futon costs is not a tricky question, but complicated because you have so many choices between the frame, mattress and cover. Selecting what you want in a futon depends on your needs and your budget. You can customize the look and feel you want, and pick up or have delivered quickly. And best of all, futons fit anywhere!

Factors to consider when buying a futon

How much is this going to be used? Every day? Every weekend? Once a month? Once a year?

Where are you using the futon? Office? Bedroom? Living room? 

Who is using it? A child? An adult? The whole family?

Are your parents or grandparents going to be sleeping on it? How long do you really want your mother-in-law in town? :)

Is this going to be someone's everyday bed?

All these factors contribute to how much the futon you choose will cost. You want to get the best frame and mattress you can afford to fit your usage. A cheap version is not always the best value. Consider how often you may have to replace a cheap one. If it doesn't withstand the usage you need, it's not worth what you paid. The flexibility of being able to upgrade parts and renew covers makes a futon a comfortable and practical sofa/bed for your home.
